Katherine Shierlaw is an emerging artist, living and working on the lands of the Kaurna and Ramindjeri people. She works in glass primarily, tinkering at the intersection of space, time, and social connectivity. Katherine uses her kiln to fuse, carve, and slump the glass, manipulating its colour, texture, and shape. Cold working then brings the work to resolution, through polishing, grinding, and sandblasting. A background in geography and town planning is evident in her conceptual interests and the spatial qualities of her work.

Katherine has completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Art at the University of South Australia. This builds on skills gained through masterclasses with international glass artists and studies at Adelaide Central School of Art. She was a highly commended finalist in the 2022 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, and a finalist in the University of South Australia’s 2023 Images of Research and Teaching Competition. Katherine has exhibited in group exhibitions including SALA Festival’s “Commence” (2022) and “Out of the Box” (2023). An advocate for arts in regional areas, she is a member of the Victor Harbor Regional Gallery co-operative, managing the gallery’s promotions, website, and social media. She is Co-President and Treasurer of the organising committee for Coalesce, the 2023 University of South Australia Contemporary Art Graduate Exhibition.
